Our History

The municipality of Mambajao water system was known as “Las Aquas Potables de Mambajao”. It was established and inaugurated on September 9, 1904 spearheaded by Placido Reyes supported by the townspeople. The existing water spring source and two reservoirs built in the year 1905 and 1914, respectively were still utilized by Mambajao Water District which was established by virtue of Sangguniang Bayan of Mambajao Resolution No. 18, Series of 1982 pursuant to the provision of Presidential Decree P.D 198. It was issued by the Local Water Utilities Administration Certificate of Conformance No. 202 dated June 30, 1982.

It is a non-profit, quasi-public independently administered local entity created primarily for the purpose of acquiring, installing, improving, maintaining and operating water supply and distribution systems for domestic industrial and agricultural uses for residents and lands within the boundaries of Mambajao, Camiguin. Last March 14, 2012 Mambajao Water District was categorized by the Local Water Utilities Administration as Category D.

The agency has a manpower compliment of thirty-two (32) personnel composed of seventeen (17) Permanent, six (6) Casuals, four (4) Contractual and five (5) Job Orders headed by the Jocelyn E. Daleon, the General Manager supported by the policy making body, the Board of Directors namely:

The Mambajao Water District provided water supply to only seven barangays in the municipality of Mambajao, Camiguin: Brgy. Poblacion, Baylao, Tagdo, Balbagon, Benhaan, Yumbing and Bliss Pandan. Presently serving a total of Five Thousand Twenty-six (5,026) active service connections as of October 31, 2025.

At present, Mambajao Water District continues to exercise its mandate in delivering affordable, adequate, safe and potable water supply to the residential, commercial and institutional establishments in the locality. There were innovations and upgrading of the existing water system to achieve dependable and sustainable water supply for the generations to come.
